Boutati Eleni

Athens, Greece

Eleni I. Boutati is Associate Professor of Internal Medicine/Diabetes Mellitus in the 2^nd Department of Internal Medicine, Medical School of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Greece.

She graduated and gained her PhD from the NKUA. She trained in Internal Medicine at the 2^nd Dpt of Internal Medicine of NKUA. She had a postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Medical Specialties-Infectious Diseases, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, USA. In 2001 she was elected Lecturer, in 2006 tenured Assistant Professor, in 2010 Assistant Professor, and in 2012 Associate Professor of Internal Medicine/Diabetes Mellitus in Medical School of NKUA. She has been co/investigator in several international clinical trials, has co/organized and participated in numerous national and international symposia/congresses/lectures in Internal Medicine/Diabetes/Infectious Diseases.

She is a specialist in Internal Medicine, Infectious diseases and Diabetes Mellitus. Her core interests include both clinical involvement in the field of Internal Medicine, Diabetes & Infectious Diseases, and her research activities focus on infectious diseases and metabolic diseases.

Campos Luis

Degree in Medicine from the Faculty of Medical Sciences, in 1978. Master in Quality Management of Health Services, University of Murcia, 2001. Board certified in Medical Emergency and Health Management, in 2003. Post-graduation in Emergency Services Management by the INDEG Business School ISCTE, in 2006. Assistant of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of UNL from 1992 to 2013 and, since then, Invited Professor. He is Honorary Fellow of the American College of Physicians, since 2017.
Prof Luís Campos is currently the president of the Portuguese Society of Internal Medicine. He is also chairman of the Working Group on Professional Issues and Quality of Care of the European Federation of Internal Medicine, since 2017, director of the Internal Medicine Department of Saint Francisco Xavier Hospital, in Lisbon, since 2006; advisor of the General Directorate of Health, since 2009; member of the Advisory Council of the National Health Plan 2016-2020, since 2014; member of the National Committee for Literacy and Integrated Care and of the National Committee for Reference Centers, since 2016.

Previous Functions

Among previous functions, Prof Luís Campos was president of the National Council for Quality in Healthcare from 2009 to 2016; member of the working group that prepared the report of Portugal for the OECD report on "Geographic variations in Healthcare", in 2014; member of the Commission for follow-up of the Hospital Reform, from 2013 to 2015; invited professor at the National School of Public Health from 2011 to 2014; member of the Scientific Committee for Good Clinical Practices, from 2011 to 2014; national coordinator of the Electronic Health Record, in 2011; national coordinator of the Autoimmunity Study Group of the Internal Medicine Portuguese Society, from 2003 to 2011; advisor of the National Institute for Medical Drugs in the introduction of new drugs, from 2007 to 2011; member of the Coordinating Group for the design of new hospitals of José de Mello Saúde, from 2003 to 2009; member of the National Committee for the Emergency Reform, from 2006 to 2008; director of the Emergency Department of the Western Area of the Lisbon, at Saint Francisco Xavier Hospital, from 2003 to 2006; coordinator of the Quality Program of the Lisbon Heath Region, from 1998 to 2000; advisor of the Macao Government in the area of Health, from 1997 to 1999; advisor of the Azores Regional Government, in 1998.

Over the years he has served as president of several hospital committees, at various times, he held several positions in the organization of scientific meetings, among which he was president of the XXI National Congress of Internal Medicine in 2015, president of the II International Forum on the Chronic Illness in 2010, president of the 1st National Congress of Autoimmunity in 2009, co-chair of the 6th International Congress on Autoimmunity in 2008, and president of the I International Forum on Chronic Illness in 2006, among others.

Prof Luís Campos is a member of the Scientific Council of several national scientific journals, having held more than 350 conferences. He authored or co-authored about 340 communications, dozens of publications and 16 book chapters. He was co-editor of the book "Governance of Hospitals", in 2009 and was editor of the book "Internal Medicine Protocols", in 2012.

Cervera Ricard

Ricard Cervera, MD, PhD, FRCP is Senior Consultant and Head at the Department of Autoimmune Diseases, Hospital Clínic, Barcelona, Director of the Research Team on Systemic Autoimmune Diseases at the Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS) of Barcelona, and Professor at the Department of Medicine, Coordinator of the Masters’ on Autoimmune Diseases and Academic Vice-Dean at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of at the University of Barcelona, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.
Dr. Cervera qualified in Medicine in 1983 from the Universitat de Barcelona and in 1988 obtained his PhD degree for his thesis on anticardiolipin antibodies. His post-doctoral experience included two years at the Lupus Research Unit, The Rayne Institute, St. Thomas' Hospital, London, England. In 1995, together with Drs. Miguel Ingelmo and Josep Font created the Department of Autoimmune Diseases of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, a pioneering centre in Europe devoted to develop high quality clinical, academic and research work on these conditions.
Dr. Cervera is member of the Catalan, Spanish and International Societies of Internal Medicine, the Spanish Society of Rheumatology and the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR), Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) of London, and Honorary Member of the Argentinian, Mexican, Peruvian, Equatorian, Colombian and Slovak Societies of Rheumatology, and the Society of Clinical Immunology of the Community of Madrid. He is coordinator of the European Forum on Antiphospholipid Antibodies and of the European Working Party on Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (Euro-Lupus Group) and Chairman of the Lupus Academy. He is also founder member and Executive Committee member of the Antiphospholipid Syndrome Alliance for Clinical Trials and International Networking (APS ACTION) and the Lupus Nephritis Trials Network (LNTN) and co-coordinator of the European consortium PRECISESADS, devoted to the molecular reclassification to find clinically useful biomarkers for systemic autoimmune diseases.
Dr. Cervera is also the chairman of the Medical Advisory Board of the Catalan Association of Lupus Patients and Medical Advisor to Lupus Europe (European Federation of Lupus Patient Associations). He has organized many international workshops, symposia and courses on autoimmune diseases. Among other awards, he has received the Prizes of the "5th European Conference on Systemic Lupus Erythematosus", EULAR 2003 and EULAR 2005 and the Award to the Professional Excellence of the College of Physicians of Barcelona - 2014.
Dr. Cervera has presented over 400 invited lectures, has published more than 800 scientific papers and is co-editor of 30 books and member of the Editorial Board of 20 medical journals.

Lansberg Peter

Dr. Lansberg is a lipidologist and senior clinical staff member Department of Pediatrics, Section Molecular Genetics University Medical Center Groningen. Dr. Lansberg obtained his Bachelor, Master, and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the University of Amsterdam (UvA). He returned to Academic Medical Center (AMC) where he worked on his doctoral thesis “The Molecular Basis and Treatment of Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH)” at the department of vascular medicine under the supervision of prof. John Kastelein and prof. Jan Wouter ten Cate.
He established and supervised the Amsterdam Lipid Clinic in the Slotervaart medical center in Amsterdam and during the 1990ies he co-founded, in collaboration with Prof. Kastelein, the Dutch Lipid Clinic Network, a national alliance of Dutch academic and general hospitals. For this network, he conceived and promoted the Dutch Lipid Clinic Diagnostic Criteria for FH. Parallel to the national activities he was active in the international ‘Make Early Diagnosis to Prevent Early Death’ (MedPed) program, initiated by the late Dr. Roger Williams. His focus in both organizations was on developing comprehensive educational programs to improve the clinical management of Familial Hypercholesterolemia patients as well setting up the first electronic health record for the registration of patients with lipid abnormalities in 1990. During this period he was involved in a large number of clinical trials focusing on lipid management and genetic research at the department of vascular medicine at the AMC.
Dr. Lansberg is the founder and former director of the successful Dutch National FH Cascade Screening program conducted by the “Stichting Opsporing Erfelijke Hypercholesterolemie” (StOEH). He supported similar initiatives in Europe, Middle East, Southeast Asia, Canada, Australia and New Zealand and shared his experience and expertise, building and managing the Dutch screening program.

From 2008 – 2016, dr. Lansberg has been active in the field of translational medicine. He established the Durrer Center for Cardiogenetic Research. A national biobank initiative for the Interuniversity Cardiology Institute of the Netherlands (ICIN) and funded by the Dutch Academy of Science and the Dutch Heart Foundation. He was the program manager and WP leader Biobanking for the Center for Translational Medicine (CTMM) and Translational Research IT (TraIT) program. CTMM-TraIT is organized as a public-private partnership consortium aiming to organize, deploy and manage a National IT infrastructure for data and workflow management, targeted specifically at the needs of investigator driven, multi-center, translational research projects.
In 2019 He was invited as faculty member of the Executive Committee for the Regional Federation for Europe of the International Atherosclerosis Society (IAS).
Parallel to his scientific and clinical activities dr. Lansberg has given over 1000 presentations and workshops at national and international conferences on cardiovascular risk management, lipids and the prevention of atherosclerosis in more than 65 countries. Based on his broad presentation expertise he now conducts workshops for medical specialists and researchers to improve their presenting and communications skills.

Manns Michael P.

Hannover, Germany

Michael P. Manns is President of Hannover Medical School (MHH), Hannover, Germany, since January 1st, 2019. Since 1991 he is Director of the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endocrinology at Hannover Medical School. He graduated in medicine from the University of Vienna in Austria and the University of Mainz in Germany before completing postgraduate training at the Free University of Berlin, Germany, and the University of Mainz, where he became Professor of Medicine in 1986. Subsequently, Professor Manns was a Research Associate at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California, USA from 1987 to 1988.
Professor Manns has a long-term research interest in liver diseases with a main focus on viral hepatitis, autoimmune liver diseases, hepatocellular carcinoma, liver transplantation, regenerative medicine, and cell therapy. Professor Manns is founder and Chairman of Hep-Net, a national network of competence on viral hepatitis, and the German Liver Foundation. He has been President of the German Society of Gastroenterology (DGVS), the German Association for the Study of the Liver (GASL), the German Society of Internal Medicine (DGIM), and United European Gastroenterology (UEG).
Professor Manns has received numerous awards including the International Hans Popper Award in 1995 and the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) Recognition Award in 2007.
2015 – 2018 he was Clinical Director of the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research (HZI), Braunschweig, Germany, and the Center for Individualized Infection Medicine (CIIM), Hannover, Germany. Since 2015 he is member of the Scientific Panel for Health (SPH) of the European Commission in Brussels. He has published more than 1000 articles in international peer-reviewed journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, Nature, Nature Medicine, Cell, Gastroenterology, and Hepatology among others. He has an h-Index of 155 (Google Scholar, April 17, 2019). According to Thomson Reuters he ranks among the top 1 % of most cited researchers in clinical medicine.

Ntaios George

Larissa, Greece

George Ntaios serves as Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Thessaly and practices Medicine at the Department of Medicine at the Larissa University Hospital, Greece. After obtaining his Master and PhD degrees at the Aristotles University of Thessaloniki, he continued his academic stroke training with a stroke research fellowship in Lausanne, Switzerland. Then, he obtained the European Master Degree in Stroke Medicine (Danube University, Austria) which he attended with the support of scholarships by the European Stroke Organization and the Hellenic Society of Atherosclerosis.
He served as the co-chair of the Guidelines Committee of the ESO between 2014-2018 and was the leading author of the Standard Operating Procedure for the development of the European Stroke Organization Guidelines. Also, he has contributed in the development of several Guideline Documents published by the European Stroke Organization and the Hellenic Stroke Organization. He serves as a member of the Editorial Board of the European Stroke Journal and the Scientific Committee of the European Stroke Organization Conference. He organized the 21st Stroke Summer School of the European Stroke Organization in Larissa/Greece in 2017. He serves as Member-at-large at the Executive Committee of the European Stroke Organization, as General Secretary of the Hellenic Stroke Organization and as member of the Board of Directors of the Institute For The Study And Education On Thrombosis And Antithrombotic Therapy. He was the leading Editor of the Stroke Textbook of the Hellenic Stroke Organization.
His main research interest focuses on stroke pathophysiology, prevention and prognosis. He leads three investigator-initiated studies as the Chief Investigator and participates in several observational and randomized studies of acute stroke management and stroke prevention as steering committee member, national coordinator or principal investigator. Wedemeyer Heiner

Heiner Wedemeyer is Professor and Chairmen of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University Clinic Essen since February 2018.
He received his medical degree from the University of Göttingen in 1996 and subsequently started his training in Internal Medicine at Hannover Medical School in Germany. From 1998 to 2000, he was a research fellow in immunology at the Liver Diseases Branch, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, USA. Since 2001, he completed his training in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at Hannover Medical School, where he became Professor of Medicine in 2011.
Professor Wedemeyer has been involved in the scientific coordination of the German Network of Competence on Viral Hepatitis (Hep-Net) and the German Liver Foundation for more than 15 years. Currently, he serves as the Managing Director of the German Hepatitis C-Registry. Heiner Wedemeyer is member of several scientific organizations and was Secretary General of the European Association for the Study of the Liver from 2009 to 2011.
Professor Wedemeyer has a long-term research interest in liver diseases with a main focus on viral hepatitis, liver transplantation and hepatocellular carcinoma. He has been principal investigator in numerous clinical trials, focusing on antiviral therapy and immunotherapy of viral hepatitis B, C, D and E. He has authored over 325 original articles; his current Hirsch-Index is 80 (google scholar; January 2018) and his work has been quoted more than 28.000 times.
Heiner Wedemeyer has received numerous awards including the Hans Popper Award of the International Association of the Study of the Liver in 2002, the Innovation Award of the German Medical Faculties (2011) and the Rudolph-Schoen-Awards (2011). His research has been funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, the German Ministry of Research and Education, the European Union, the European Association for the Study of the Liver and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
